James Adamu, a 32-year-old man, who allegedly raped an 18-year-old
woman in Ota, Ogun, on Monday appeared before an Ota Magistrates’
Court. The suspected rapist has, however, been admitted to a bail of
N100, 000 with one surety in like sum. Adamu, who resides at No. 10,
Bello Close, Olokomeji Ijoko in Ota, is facing a charge of rape.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Sgt. Chudu Gbesi, told the court that the
accused committed the offence on Dec. 7 at his residence at 4.00
p.m. Gbesi said Adamu lured the girl into his house before having
unlawful carnal knowledge of her. The offence contravened Section 358 of
the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun, 2006.
The Senior Magistrate, Mr S.O. Banwo, who gave the accused bail and a
surety, said the surety must be resident within the court’s
jurisdiction and also show evidence of tax payment to Ogun
Government. Banwo said the surety should also swear to an affidavit of
means and submit four recent passport-size photographs to the court.
