Even though Sunday's SummerSlam
pay-per-view featured plenty of confusion and ultimately disappointment, there
were some bouts that fans will remember for the right reasons.
A four-hour show was inevitably
going to feature some standout matches that would have people talking
afterward, and thankfully, that proved to be the case.
Admittedly, some of the 10 matches
were forgettable, but here are three bouts in particular that fans will be rewatching
for a number of reasons.
Kevin Owens vs. Cesaro
It wasn't the finest match Cesaro or
Kevin Owens has competed in throughout his WWE career, but their meeting
at SummerSlam was still a thoroughly enjoyable match.
There were plenty of incredible
moments and spots throughout the match, which was perhaps no more than WWE fans
would have expected with these two in-ring technicians.
You only have to go back through
their meetings over the last few years before they joined WWE to see what they
can do in the ring, and thankfully, they managed to deliver at SummerSlam.
Think back to Owens' brilliant dives
and flips, Cesaro's sheer brutality and European-influenced wrestling, and that
impressive suplex Owens executed to eventually set Cesaro up for the Pop-Up Powerbomb.
It was the most aesthetically
pleasing match of the night and one fans would probably love even more if they
watched it again. And if both wrestlers manage to ascend to the higher levels
of WWE, this first meeting on PPV will act as a handy bookmark for the true
beginning of their rivalry in the company.
Seth Rollins vs. John Cena
Was it spoiled by the finish?
Potentially.
But that doesn't stop Seth Rollins'
bout with John Cena from smacking of sheer brilliance from start to (almost)
finish. It was full of high-velocity, high-octane wrestling and plenty of drama
that kept fans gripped.
