Welcome, Secondary School Students
What will you like to be in future? A Doctor, Lawyer, Banker, Musician, whatever your aspiration is, you can only if you make the right decisions. A career is the progress and actions taken by a person throughout a lifetime, especially those related to that person's occupation. A career is often composed of the jobs held, titles earned and work accomplished over a long period of time, rather than just referring to one position. In other words, a career is a progressive path of learning and development. It's not too early to start thinking about your life after secondary school. Before you start, lets teach you how to CHART A PATH from an area you think you might like to work in through possible courses of study.

Be one of the “Worlds Strongest Men” with Official Strongman

Back in 1977, after years of debate over whom was ‘the strongest’,
the idea of the World’s Strongest Man competition was born, pitting the
best strength athletes against each other, in a variety of testing
disciplines. However, the one thing the competition was missing… the
athletes we now call ‘strongmen’. In order to tackle this, a special
invitation was given to a number of weightlifters, arm wrestlers, shot
putters and power lifters to battle it out and become the first World’s
Strongest Man.
From then on, the only way a person could compete in WSM was with the previous winner gaining an automatic place or getting ‘seen’ at a national level and being invited to the ‘Giants Live’ WSM Qualifying World Tour.
There are various ways of getting ‘seen’: there’s a simple form with open contest days, however, if there are no contests near you that suit then there is less chance for you to be ‘seen’. And less of a chance of an invitation to ‘Giants Live’ WSM Qualifying World Tour.
Well that was then and this is now. The search for the future generation of Bill Kazmaier’s will start on the Internet.
With sport ever growing in popularity, and the worldwide fitness ideals changing towards functional strength, the strongman community is swelling in its ranks. We appreciate the need for change and the opportunity, so here it is: The system is called Official Strongman.
Now you can make WSM no matter where you live.
Giants Live will remain in its place as the ultimate showcase for the world’s strongest to gain access to WSM, but how you get there is shifting. From now on, Official Strongman will allow you to get ranked in the world on strength-based events that are extremely measurable and simple to judge.
This is a historic moment and a great opportunity to compete against the best of the best. It’s time to showcase your talent to the international stage.
For the first time ever, the Giants’ doors are being opened to the entire Strongman community and YOU can become part of the action.
Before Official Strongman, the only way to make your ‘best lifts’ official was by entering a Powerlifting or weightlifting contest, there was no simple way to compare your individual gym lifts with others around the world. That is all to change. Qualifiers are broadening their horizons so that anyone can take part, not just the ‘giants’. Weight and age are categorized accordingly, creating fairness for all.
Official Strongman takes your best gym lift and changes it into an internationally recognised, official lift, which anyone can view with just the click of a button.
We welcome you to join and truly be one of the few who can walk the walk.
Go to officialstrongman.com and upload a video. Let’s find out if you’ve got the right stuff.
We are currently in the process of making sure all ‘Pro Strongmen’ worldwide are supplied with a login and password to take part. If you are a pro then go to the site and click on the appropriate button. For everyone else, please go to officialstrongman.com and sign up.
We look forward to welcoming you all into this exciting online community.

Latest Dexmo Input Glove Features Positional Tracking with Full Finger Input, Claims 5ms Latency
The video, which shows a man moving blocks to spell out ‘Hi!’ and ‘Nĭ hăo,’ claims the gloves offer hand motion tracking and 60fps optical tracking with a latency of less than five milliseconds. The device is shown to offer full finger input, meaning it tracks movements and gestures from all five fingers independently. The 60fps optical tracking is a new and necessary addition to the product, as previous versions were not ‘aware’ of where a user’s hands were in 3D space. Low latency, meanwhile, is particularly important for creating a sense of realism and control with wearable tech, as even minor delays between command input and output make for a less smooth and natural-feeling experience.

The company has quickly progressed from its earlier F2 prototype, featuring ‘digital force feedback’ on the thumb and index finger – to their current prototype, the F5, featuring full 5 digit force feedback. This allows wearers to feel resistance in those phalanges when they encounter a virtual object, e.g., the blocks in the video demonstration. The result is that users can ‘feel’ virtual objects, at least to the extent that ‘on’ or ‘off’ resistance qualifies as feeling. However, we’re told the company is already working on enhancing the Dexmo’s capabilities with ‘variable stiffness’, able to convey the differences in solidity of a virtual object, say between a balloon and a rock.
For the latest prototype, the company “redesigned the hardware, rewrote the whole communication protocol and optimized both on the hardware and software level,” Aler Gu, CEO of Dexta Robotics, tells Road to VR. Gu credits Depth-VR for providing the optical tracking solution that allows the Dexmo to operate with “5 ms latency for both hands at the same time,” though we’ve yet to see both hands in action. The company promises an updated video will be published demonstrating this at a later date.
Dexta Robotics launched, and subsequently cancelled, a Kickstarter for Dexmo in October and November of 2014. As it happens, Dexta collaborator Depth-VR has a similar start-stop Kickstarter story.

Depth-VR is a Chinese startup that launched a Kickstarter campaign in November 2014 for a “3D head tracking device that brings unprecedented realism to 3D objects on your computer screen.” Despite receiving $56,724 from 139 backers, the Depth-VR team suspended product development in June due to looming financial issues and offered backers full refunds.
Dexmo have confirmed that they will support devices besides the Oculus Rift and that, as an input device builder, their goal is to be as agnostic as possible. Dexta Robotics has not announced a consumer release date for their device, though the company is taking preorders for two different models on its site, so we hope the product will hit the market sooner or later.
Dexta Robotics is not the only company working on making quality haptic gloves a reality: NeuroDigital Technologies’ Gloveone is in development, Virtuix recently worked with Rice University students on a glove prototype, and occasional-Dexta-collaborator Ximmerse is working on its own glove.

At least five dead in Mideast sandstorm
An unseasonal sandstorm swept across the
Mideast on Tuesday, blanketing Beirut and Damascus, causing the deaths
of at least five people and sending hundreds of others to hospitals with
breathing difficulties, officials said.
Reduced
visibility prompted the Syrian government to call off airstrikes
against rebel fighters, local media reported, and threatened planned
protests by Lebanese activists over the government’s inability to deal
with the country’s rampant trash crisis.

The storm also hit Jordan, Israel and Egypt. In Jordan, schools shut down or cut their days short.
Syria’s
state-run news agency SANA said three people in the central Hama
province died from the sandstorm, without elaborating, and said there
were more than 3,500 cases of people with breathing difficulties across
several provinces.
Nigeria spent N2.7trillion on measly 2,850 megawatts power generation
The total money expended on the power sector by the Federal Government from 1999 till date, was N2.7 trillion with a marginal power generation increase of 2,850 mega watts from 1,750mega watts met on ground in 1999, making the total power generation now to be 4,600 mega watts.
This was disclosed yesterday by the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Power, Ambassador Godknows Igali, while making a presentation before the Senate’s Ad-Hoc Committee on Power at the ongoing investigative session on the sector.

Sex offender escapes Norwegian Jail on a surf board
With the conditions which have been
reported about the Bastoy Low Security Prison on a small picturesque island in
Norway, it is a wonder that prisoners try to escape. The prison is well known
for the organic farming which is carried out by inmates, who have a relaxed
regime which includes watching movies, going cycling, using the local beaches,
the prison has no fences and is held up as an example of Norway’s emphasis on
humane incarceration policies.
However it would seem that the
relaxed regime was not to the liking of one inmate who was in his middle
twenties. The man, convicted of a sex offence, is no to be considered a danger
to the public which is just as well as he used a surf board and a shovel to
paddle his way to the mainland, which is about 3 kilometres away from the
island. The prison chief Tom Eberhardt said that although it may sound
spectacular, he could easily have found something else to float his way from
the island.
The island prison is used to prepare
prisoners for eventual release and has serial killers, rapists and drug
traffickers typically among the criminals serving their time there. Whilst on
the island the prisoners do farm work, cooking and any other practical tasks to
ensure they are ready to lead a normal life when finally released.
The island is connected to the
mainland by a number of ferry crossings which occur about a dozen times a day,
These sailings are by and large for employees and visitors, it is hardly
surprising that few prisoners try to escape, but one thing is certain, if they
do and are caught, they will never be allowed to the island prison again, as
the prison chief pointed out, there is no return ticket if you do manage to run
away.
